Waste transfer station is equipment kit, designed for decreasing volume of transporting waste by pressing in special containers. Purpose of this pressing is to reduce transportation costs when landfill is located remotely. Waste transfer stations are located at transfer points and include one or several compactors and presorting line.

Waste transfer station could be separated to mechanical, semiautomatic and automatic, depending on type of used equipment. Design of mechanical transfer station is the most simple. Waste is being transported by garbage trucks and unloaded on unloading area, where presorting is being provided. Then waste is being loaded into press-compactor with front-end loader. Minimal set of equipment is press-compactor, containers and front-end loader. Advantages of mechanical transfer station are simple use and low costs.
Waste transfer station could consist only of press-compactor and ramp for vehicles. Garbage trucks moves on the ramp and unload waste into the feed hopper, where from waste loads in hopper of compactor. This technological scheme is possible only in absence of bulky waste which could create congestion in hopper.
Containers automatically are being connected to press at the automatic waste transfer station. Then containers are disconnected after filling and moved on movable platforms. Waste is being loaded using conveyor or ramp. This solution is optimal for transporting of waste for a log distance for further sorting for landfilling.
